Tootsie Rolls have been around since 1896. They have been a favorite American candy ever since. I know you are wondering, are Tootsie Rolls gluten free?
I’ve got some great news! The short answer is yes, Tootsie Rolls are gluten free! There is more to their story though! They have a long delicious history.

According to the Tootsie Roll website “At this time, all of our confections are gluten free. We do not use wheat, barley, rye, oats, triticale, spelt or any of their components and that includes our dusting on our conveyor belts. We do use corn and soy products in the manufacturing of our products.”

Just keep in mind they are not certified gluten free by an independent company such as the Gluten Intolerance Group, however, I have not seen any reports or comments that have indicated any concerns.
Let us know in the comment below if you have an issues with Tootsie Rolls.

Are Tootsie Pops Gluten free?
Tootsie Pops are made by the same company. I feel like you probably already know that, but I’ll just state the obvious to be clear. Not trying to insult anyone’s intelligence.
Just like Tootsie Rolls being gluten free, that means Tootsie Pops are gluten free as well.
So go ahead and enjoy all the way to the center of the tootsie pop!

How Many Licks does it Take to Get to the Center of a Tootsie Pop?
We all remember the commercial. That cheeky little owl getting to the center in three licks. Come on Mr. Owl, play by the rules! That owl started in 1970 and is still on our minds today.
Mr. Owl getting to the center of the tootsie pop is probably one of the most iconic commercials that comes to mind. Whomever came up with that marketing strategy hopefully got a good raise.
That leads us to the question… How many licks does it take to get to the the center of a Tootsie Pop?

According to Tootsie Roll Industries “Since 1970, we have received more than 20,000 letters from children around the world who believe they have solved the mystery behind how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.” Honestly, I feel like 20,000 is low for being from 1970… but I’ll let that one go!
They go on to say “estimates from children seem to run from a low of 100 licks to a high of 5,800 licks, with most of them ranging from 600-800 licks.”
I’ve seen other stories and examples, but I think the 600-800 just about nails it. Let’s call it an even 700 and call it day! I feel bad for the kid who got stuck with the 5,800. That makes for a long day!
Have you ever tried to lick your way to the center of the tootsie roll pop? How long did it take? I’ll accept any scientific reports you may have in my comments below!

Milky Way is not gluten free. It contains Barley Malt. Otherwise good information.
Great catch, I can see how I made it look like Milky Way was on a list of gluten free candy, but my post is actually about how milky is not gluten free. I took it off the list to avoid confusion. Thanks for the heads up and thanks for stopping by!
