Are Baby Ruth Gluten free? We are going to start this one HOT with a big fat NO… not gluten free per their website, but I feel like there is more to it…could it be a maybe?

Baby Ruth Ingredients, where is the gluten?
Their website as pictured above says they are not gluten free, but check out the ingredient list:
- Sugar
- Dry roasted peanuts
- corn syrup
- Hydrogenated vegetable oil (palm kernel, coconut, and soybean)
- Nonfat milk
- Cocoa
- High fructose corn syrup
- Less than 2% of glycerin
- Dairy product solids
- Dextrose
- Salt
- Soy lecithin
- Lactic acid esters
- Carrageenan

Do you see the gluten in their ingredients? I sure don’t. 100 bonus points to someone who can tell me what Carrageenan is…
When I started my research I assumed their company would do what most candy companies do. State that their ingredients don’t contain gluten but are manufactured in a facility containing wheat.
Baby Ruth does not do that. They simply state up front that they are no gluten free. I’m really not sure if I should be happy or sad.
I’m glad they are direct up front, but would appreciate if they would say something to the effect of they don’t have wheat or gluten in their ingredients.

Things to Consider
Baby Ruth says they are not gluten free, but at the end of the day there are a few things to consider and you need to do what is in your best interest. Taking a look at their ingredients, I’m not seeing the gluten. I feel they should mark it like the other Candy I have reviewed.
Baby Ruth is owned by Ferrero, the same folks that bring me my beloved Butterfingers which have a gluten free label. So why can’t they slap that GF label on there?

Dad’s Verdict
Baby Ruth are not certified gluten free, the company says they are not gluten free, but the ingredients tell me otherwise… oh and as always be mindful of cross contamination concerns.
So what’s the answer? Is Baby Ruth gluten free? Simply put they are not gluten free. However, there is some hope and if you are able to consume things that don’t have gluten listed in the ingredients and cross contamination is not a major concern for you, you may have some luck.
I’d love to hear what you all have experienced. Leave your comments and experiences in the comments below. I get a lot of people googling candy in the grocery isle and it is always helpful to have more insight and comments!

Not knowing of this change of status for Baby Ruth, I have been eating them still as they are one of my favorites. Guess what. I have had no reaction, no effects what so ever. I have Celiac and even a hint of a product with gluten causes some very severe reactions for me. So??
I would agree with you. Their website officially says they are not gluten free, but their ingredient list does not contain anything with gluten. It’s probably a CYA thing. Glad they work for you! Thanks for stopping by!
