Cold brew has been becoming more and more popular over the last few years. You can always get a good cup of cold brew from the big name coffee shops like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. They always have a consistent smooth flavor.

One thing you may notice with cold brew is the difference in flavor. It’s a smoother taste. True cold brew does not have that slight bitter taste that traditional hot coffee provides. The other thing you may notice with cold brew is the price! It typically costs more than a traditional cup of coffee.

Cold brew takes more time to make than regular coffee. That’s why you pay more. It needs a solid 12-18 hours of “steeping.” Basically the coffee grinds rest in the water, slowly transitioning the water into that delicious cup of coffee.
Save money, brew at home
It is easy to make cold brew at home. I’ve seen a few different types of coffee makers. The one I like the best is from County Line Kitchen. It’s literally three pieces. You can find it here on Amazon! I use it everyday. I think I paid about $25 two years ago. Worth every penny!
I’m not scientific about it, but I fill the mesh cylinder about half way. If I am using a bolder coffee, I may use little less. This cold brew coffee maker will make a smooth strong cup of Joe. If I get a little too aggressive with the grinds and make it too strong, you can easily add a little water to dilute it a bit. This cold brew coffee maker is simply too easy not to use and have coffee available all the time.
When I need to make coffee, I simply put the grinds in the water before bed and put it in the refrigerator. In the morning I have perfect cold brew. We are looking at maybe 8 hours to steep. Not too shabby!
When I get up, simply toss the grinds away and now I have a large mason jar of coffee that typically lasts 3-4 days. It depends on how much coffee I drink that week.

Hot coffee gone cold is not the same
If you take hot coffee and either put it on ice or cool it down in the refrigerator, it’s NOT the same as real cold brew. Don’t be fooled. If you have not had cold brew, you are really missing out. I drink it all year long, even in the winter. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good cup of hot coffee. My Bonavita brews the prefect cup of coffee every time, but there is something about the smooth consistent flavor of cold brew.
Check it out for yourself. It will save you money in the long run. They make great gifts too!
